Free Anki Decks for Chemistry Nomenclature

I took a lean and mean version of the Nomencrawler nomenclature database and curated several free Anki decks for introductory chemistry. These decks are designed to help you actually retain names and formulas with spaced repetition, while letting you study the exact topic you need instead of getting buried in one giant deck.

They’re organized for intro-level chemistry students and cover:

  • Elements: A complete element name/symbol deck for building the vocabulary that supports everything else.
  • Monatomic Ions: Core fixed-charge and variable-charge monatomic ions.
  • Polyatomic Ions: A curated intro-focused set including the common families students are expected to know.
  • Binary Ionic Compounds: You can practice core naming and formula patterns without polyatomic ions mixed in.
  • Polyatomic Ionic Compounds: Practice charge balancing and naming with a wide range of important polyatomic ions.
  • Molecular Compounds: Practice with enough variety to show how the system works across different compounds.
  • Acids: A compact acids deck covering the most useful introductory binary acids and oxyacids.

If chemical nomenclature is slowing you down, these are meant to give you a cleaner, more focused way to practice. The zip file below contains all seven decks with a lean and learnable 600 common introductory vocabulary!

And if you haven’t checked out Nomencrawler yet, give it a shot! I think it’s fun!
